Nairobi City:

The legendary “Place of Cool Waters”, as it was called by the Maasai, it is Kenya’s capital city, seat of Government and the region’s commercial, communications and industrial hub.  At an altitude of 5,500ft/1,680m, Nairobi is the region’s mile-high city. Unfortunately, Nairobi is ignored by many visitors to Kenya who go through it only en route to the game reserves and beaches. There is a lot to do in this cosmopolitan, vibrant city.  Clubbing probably rates tops in Africa, with pulsating discos, great pubs and restaurants offering cuisines ranging from assorted African to Thai, Italian, Indian, you name it.

Nairobi is also home to one of the finest museums in Africa, the National Museums of Kenya, showcasing this country’s Cradle of Mankind credentials – when you think origins, think Kenya!  The markets in the city centre are a dizzy array of artifacts, from Indian pashmina shawls to souvenirs sculptured in malachite from the Congo.  Probably Nairobi’s finest feature is its temperate cool climate. Temperatures range between 15° to 26° Celsius. The days are warm and the evenings are almost always chilly.
